Bikini, Brazilian or Hollywood?

The names get used loosely all over the internet, so here is exactly what I mean by each one. A basic bikini takes the hair from outside the knicker line, so nothing shows in swimwear. A modern bikini goes a little further in and tidies the top. An extended bikini, sometimes called a G-string, takes it further again at the sides and back.

A Brazilian removes almost everything but leaves a neat strip or triangle at the front. A Hollywood removes everything. Both are offered either including or excluding the perianal area, and the choice is yours. If you are not sure which you want, just say so when you arrive. I would far rather spend two minutes talking it through than have you commit to something you did not mean.

Your first appointment

The honest answer about pain is that the first one is the sharpest, because the hair is at its coarsest and the follicles have never been waxed. It is over quickly, and almost everyone tells me afterwards that it was gentler than they had built it up to be in their head. By your second or third visit the hair grows back finer and the whole thing is noticeably easier.

You do not need to do anything special beforehand except let the hair grow to roughly a quarter of an inch, about the length of a grain of rice. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip. If you have shaved recently, give it a couple of weeks. Try to avoid booking for the few days right before your period, when skin is at its most sensitive.

Afterwards, and how often

For the first 24 to 48 hours, keep the area cool and dry. That means no sunbeds, no swimming, no hot baths, no gym session and no fake tan. Loose cotton underwear rather than anything tight. From about the third day, gentle exfoliation two or three times a week is the single best thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs.

Most clients settle into a rhythm of every four to six weeks. Waxing pulls the hair out at the root rather than cutting it at the surface, so you are not fighting stubble two days later, and over time the regrowth genuinely does come through softer and sparser. Booking your next appointment before you leave is the easiest way to stay on cycle, because the whole benefit comes from consistency.
