Teens' Waxing

I understand that waxing for the first time can feel a little daunting, especially for younger clients. That is why I take extra care to explain everything step by step, keep things calm and gentle, and make sure your teen feels completely at ease throughout.

These treatments are designed specifically for ages 11 to 15 at reduced prices. A parent or guardian is welcome to stay in the room during the appointment if that helps.

For parents

If you are reading this on behalf of your daughter or son, the questions are usually the same ones, so let me answer them up front. These appointments are at reduced prices for ages 11 to 15, and you are welcome to stay in the room for the whole thing. Most parents do for a first visit and most do not by the third.

A lot of teenagers arrive having already started shaving in secret, often with a blunt razor and no real idea what they are doing, which is how nicks and ingrown hairs on legs start. I would far rather see them here, have it done properly and safely, and send them away actually knowing how to look after their skin.

How I handle a nervous first visit

Nobody gets rushed. I explain what I am about to do before I do it, I start with a small patch so they know exactly what the sensation is rather than imagining something worse, and I check in as we go. If they want to stop, we stop. No teenager has ever been made to feel silly in my treatment room and none ever will be.

It helps to know that the first appointment is the sharpest one, because the hair is at its coarsest. It is quick, and it genuinely does get easier every time as the regrowth comes through finer. Being a private room rather than a busy salon floor makes a real difference at that age too, since there is no waiting area full of strangers to walk past.

Aftercare worth passing on

The advice is simple and it is worth reinforcing at home. For the first day or two, no swimming lessons, no hot baths, no sunbeds and no PE if it can be avoided, because heat and friction on freshly waxed skin cause most irritation. From day three, gentle exfoliation two or three times a week keeps ingrown hairs away.

Waxing every four to six weeks keeps them on cycle and the regrowth softer. For a lot of families it turns into a routine appointment before the summer holidays or a school trip, which is exactly the point: sorted properly, once, rather than a running battle with a razor.
